Author Event - Raquel Willis In-Person
University of Georgia graduate Raquel Willis will discuss her memoir, The Risk It Takes to Bloom: On Life and Liberation. The book is " A passionate, powerful memoir by a trailblazing Black transgender activist, tracing her life of transformation and her work towards collective liberation." She will be in conversation with Dr. Cecilia Herles, assistant director of the Institute for Women's Studies at UGA.
Raquel Willis is an award-winning author, activist, and media strategist dedicated to Black transgender liberation. She has held groundbreaking posts, including director of communications for Ms. Foundation for Women, executive editor of Out Magazine, and national organizer for Transgender Law Center. An alumna of the University of Georgia and the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, Raquel Willis was honored as part of the University of Georgia's 2021 Class of 40 Under 40.
