Athens-Clarke County Library is pleased to announce the opening of Primal/Dreams: Paintings by Will Eskridge on October 8. Mr Eskridge’s remarkable animal paintings examine “the idiosyncrasies and behavior of animals… There are secrets to the animals that we, as humans, cannot comprehend. These mysteries are not unlike those of the universe. The more that is explored, the more secrets are revealed to be decrypted… In my work, the dichotomy between nature and technology compliment each other. Thick colors are layered to create visual texture and actual texture like the layers of mysteries behind the animal kingdom. The expressive brush strokes of the animals echo the vigor of nature and its persistence to survive. These loose and vibrant animal depictions contrast with the crisp, edged divisions and basic geometric motifs which mirror the technologically advanced world and beckon the beginning of human’s understanding of the universe.”

Originally from Kings Mountain, North Carolina, Will attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, School of Visual Arts/Savannah and earned his B.F.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from San Francisco Art Institute in 1999. With a father as a veterinarian and an artist mother, Will’s affinity for animals and art began when he was in pre-school. He explores many mediums including film, sculpture and mixed media, but his true love is painting. Eskridge’s work is in both private and public collections in Athens, Atlanta, Raleigh, Nashville, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, China, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. He now works as a full-time artist and resides in Athens with his wife and their many dogs and cats.

Join us at the Library on Sunday, October 8 at 3:00 pm for the opening reception for the exhibition, near the Appleton Auditorium on the ground floor.
